10/01/2018 Chief Examiner Shihan Sill Promoted – 9th DAN
IKO Shotokan and USSSA Karate are pleased to announce the promotion of their Chief Examiner, Shihan Leon Sill to the rank of KUDAN (9th DAN),. Hanshi Sill plays such an important part in our organization as the Chief Examiner and Instructor. We are indeed very fortunate to have him as a leader of our organization.

10/02/2018 IKO Mississippi Picayune Street Fair
IKO Mississippi will be hosting a booth at the Picayune Fall Street Fair on November 2nd and 3rd. The booth will be student led by Katie, Amber and Maggie and Hayden. They have prepared a display and handouts to let the public know about our training. We may also be called upon to produce a demonstration. This will include all our members wishing to participate.

IKO TENNESSEE IN THE NEWS
IKO’s Tennessee branch, Sense Patrick Johnston, is conducting a Womans Self Defense Seminar at Sewanee University’s Women Center.
Coach Johnston will be providing 35 students with the opportunity to learn self defense! Come out for an informative and empowering experience that will teach you some great tips on how to protect yourself. **You must register on Engage** Meet in the rock wall room in Fowler!

9/9/2018 – New IKO Member Dojo
Welcome to our newest member dojo. IKO Tennessee is located in Sewanee, TN. The dojo is lead by Sensei Pat Johnston. Sensei Johnston is a former Shotokan karate national champion, a College All-American and additionally a professional Soccer player both in the USA and in Europe. Sensei Johnson has coached at both the college and professional levels. Sensei Johnston is also an accomplished author. Sensei Johnston is a former student of Sensei Tom Kelly.

5/25/2018 –  WUKO&AD – ANNOUNCEMENT
The Directing Committee of WUKO&AD have appointed our own Shihan Ellis to be the Delegate for the United States.
Shihan will be the Head of WUKIO&AD for the USA and will be representing and leading the competition team from the USA. This is a major appointment and shows how respected Shihan Ellis is for his leadership and knowledge of Karate.

Congratulations Shihan Ellis. We know you will do a great job!

May 1, 2018 USSSA Letters Presented
At class, the letters of selection to be a member of the USSSA national team were presented to Clayton Johnson and Gabriela Elyhoenay. Both Clayton’s and Gabby’s parents were present for the presentation. We are so proud to have TWO or our students selected to the World Cup Championship in Lignano, Italy.

April 26, 2018 WUKO&AD World Cup Karate Championship
Two of IKO Mississippi’s students have been formally invited to the WUKO World Karate Championship tryouts. Clayton Johnson and Gabriela Elyhoenay have received letters of invitation to represent the United States in the upcoming World Karate championship to be held In Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy November 17-19, 2018. (Lignano is near Venice, Italy)
It is a great honor to just be invited to the team tryouts and training for the USSSA karate program team. We wish them the best of luck and are so proud that they represent the best of our IKO Mississippi Dojo.

Sensei Kelly and his wife Sonia Kalir will be traveling to Lignano for the World Games, as part of the USA delegation.
